Partners Against Crime...Refuse to
be a victim
Galt Police
Department will host its first Community Educational Night, "Partners Against Crime.....Refuse to be a Victim," on
Wednesday, April 19th. Throughout the year, Galt
Police Department personnel will offer periodic presentations,
educating the public on how they can protect themselves, by
providing crime prevention tips. Partners Against
Crime....Refuse to be a Victim is open to the public at no
cost. The first session will be about Identity Theft, to be
held, Wednesday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the
Pescetti Room at Galt Police Department, 455 Industrial Drive.
At this first meeting we will discuss other topics of interest
to the community, to be covered at a later date. For more
information contact Lynn Hutchinson at (209) 366-7056.

Did you know Auto Thefts and
Burglaries are the top two crimes plaguing city neighborhoods? Of
the 170 cars stolen in 2005, 12% were vehicles left running and
unattended in the driveway or on the street in front of the
victim’s home while "warming up.”
Auto Burglaries: Help deter this crime by securing your
vehicle…roll your windows up, and lock your car doors. Make sure
there is nothing left within
sight that would entice someone to break into your vehicle.

The Neighborhood Watch Program is one of
the most effective means available for resolving issues within
your community. It utilizes the best crime prevention device
around: a good neighbor. Through organized problem-solving
activities, you can help remove crime from your residential area
and address any community issue that concerns residents.
Neighborhood Watch is not guard duty. It is getting to know your
neighbors, focusing on community issues, forming action groups
and finding resolutions to neighborhood problems. It’s a
partnership between the Galt Police Department and our community
.
It involves:
Citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious
activities in their neighborhoods and implementation of
crime prevention techniques such as home security and Operation
Identification (engraving driver’s license or ID number on
valuable items).
How do you start Neighborhood Watch?
It’s easy. Select the area to be covered by your Neighborhood
Watch block. A block consists of 12 to 20 homes that surround
you. Personally contact and talk with as many block residents as
possible. Share the above information about the Neighborhood
Watch Program, express your concerns and ask your neighbors to
participate. Select some possible meeting dates and times that
are convenient for interested parties.
Next contact the Office of the Chief
of Police at (209) 366-7000 to schedule your initial
meeting.

live!
